The problem
Boasting 291 rooms over 15 floors, The Gantry is an iconic, design-led Hilton Curio hotel in Stratford, London. Following development of the brand identity, we were commissioned to design the public spaces of the hotel, including the lobby. The theme is inspired by East London’s industrial history, contrasted against luxurious modern-day comfort.
The solution
Raw concrete, aged copper, and fluted glass form the material palette, whilst the lobby showcases the building’s structure with an illuminated mesh overlay on the raw concrete walls. Industrial elements highlight the contrasting textures. The mid-century furniture style is juxtaposed with contemporary art, accessories and books to celebrate both the past and the future. Repurposed materials, like a recycled leather feature wall, add character.
The result
The lobby and corridors feature curated art from the Jealous Gallery in Shoreditch, creating a hub for artistic expression in the community. The eclectic mix contrasts graffiti with sculpture and neon with fine art. The pieces were commissioned by established names as well as emerging artists. The result is a chic and inviting atmosphere, a space where luxury meets comfort with a touch of urban charm.
